BATANG AI PILOTEDUCATIONAL BRIEFING
A briefing for the Batang Ai pilot

From fish waste
to new possibilities.

See how we propose to turn fish residues into a useful intermediate — a controlled 14-day process at Batang Ai, then further work in Kota Samarahan.

01 / THE SOURCE

A place worth
protecting.

Borneo Eco Fish operates at Batang Ai. The exact tank location is not marked here until the operator confirms it.

02 / THE JOURNEY

Follow the 14-day
fermentation journey.

Walk through the proposed sequence. Fourteen days is a planned hold, not proof that a batch is finished or safe.

CHOOSE A STAGE
STAGE 01 / FIELD COLLECTION

Capture, contain, and load.

Fish residues are collected at the aquaculture facility and transferred promptly into covered, labelled containers and the on-site vessel. The maximum collection input case is 2 tonnes per day.

CONTROL POINT

Prompt preservation during loading, segregated collection, hygiene and traceable batch ID.

Batch preparation: prompt preservation, recipe mixing and tank integrity must be checked before the fermentation clock starts.

* Engineered venting, spill containment and appropriate gas safety must be assessed. No pH, pathogen-reduction or nutrient outcomes are claimed in this prototype. Post-fermentation enzyme conditioning and final maturation are separate from the nominal 14-day period.
03 / INTERACTIVE CAPACITY STUDIO

Plan your
fermentation tanks.

Try different amounts of waste and tank sizes. These are planning estimates, not a final design or a permit.

PLANNING ASSUMPTIONS

Effective capacity = nominal volume × working-fill fraction × assumed density ÷ (1 + additive allowance). Filling duration = effective capacity ÷ daily intake. Occupancy = filling duration + 14-day sealed fermentation + turnaround. Active tanks = ceiling(daily intake × occupancy ÷ effective capacity). Density 1 t/m³ and 0 turnaround days are fixed illustrative assumptions. Not a final specification.

Process occupancy estimate Standby / operational allowance
~0.81 days (19.4 h) to fill one tank

Each tank could be loaded within approximately one day if intake is regular, but immediate preservation still requires an approved method. At 2.00 t/day, the model carries 28.0 tonnes in 14-day process occupancy; Occupancy includes the fill time plus the 14-day sealed hold. It does not include measured spoilage, losses or extra cleaning downtime.

CALCULATION LOGIC — fish-residue loading estimate = nominal tank m³ × working fill fraction × assumed density ÷ (1 + additive allowance). Active tanks = ceil(daily intake × (filling duration + 14-day sealed hold + turnaround) ÷ effective capacity). Assumes staggered batches and continuous intake. Gross tank capacity, mixing, fill timing, cleaning, gas space, operational overlap, backup vessels and civil works require engineering review.

How we protect
Batang Ai.

Choose a potential event. The prototype highlights proposed response principles for discussion with the relevant authorities; none represents an approved site-specific SOP.

PROPOSED SITE PROTECTION — FOR DISCUSSION
Tank containmentBunded area around vessels. Not yet designed or installed.
Reservoir separationCompound kept away from the water edge. Exact distance to be agreed.
Runoff managementSurface water directed away from tanks. No discharge to Batang Ai.
Spill recoveryContained spill kit and recovery path. Procedure to be written.
Gas managementEngineered venting proposed. Specifications not finalised.

SCENARIO / RAIN EVENT

Runoff reaches the proposed compound.

How do we keep clean stormwater separate from material handling, and prevent contaminated runoff from reaching the reservoir?

PROPOSED CONTROL PATH

Evaluate roofed handling, bunded tank placement, separated drainage, rainfall response thresholds and suspension of loading during unsafe conditions.

AUTHORITY DISCUSSION: NREB / landholder / reservoir operator
This demonstration does not determine whether an EIA or other statutory consent is required. Eco Doliya should submit the defined site footprint, waste classification, handling plan, containment design, transport arrangements and proposed monitoring for the relevant authorities’ determination.
05 / REGULATORY DISCUSSION

A monitored pilot.
Clear next steps.

Use this checklist during the meeting to record which technical and administrative matters require supporting evidence before commencement.

PROPOSED CONDITIONS TO RESOLVE

Request determination of the applicable regulatory route. Do not assume a particular approval or EIA requirement. Maximum intake remains 2 tonnes/day, subject to validation.
